Congratulations, Faustine Ndugulile, on your nomination as WHO African Region Regional Director. This is an extremely fulfilling role & despite the challenges, I know you will take the baton & go on to accelerate the gains already made, putting the health of the people of Africa at the centre.

The delivery of #mpox vaccines to Nigeria is an important addition to the ongoing measures to halt the virus and protect health. It is also a clear demonstration of international solidarity. Grateful to the U.S. government for the generous support.

We’ve made progress against preventable maternal & child deaths, but we’re stagnating. Today, I joined Austin Demby & partners to discuss reviving momentum. We must advocate at the highest levels of govts & position maternal & child health at the centre of development efforts.

Vaccines are among the most powerful innovations in history. In Africa, vaccines have saved over 50M lives in the past 50 years, but many children are still unvaccinated. There’s a need for substantial investments by govts & partners to protect children from preventable diseases.

The immersion in a 3D experience of a polio vaccination campaign in Zambia is game-changer in highlighting the crucial work we do in our region to #EndPolio. These tools are essential for driving awareness & action. I’m pleased #RC74AFRO participants could witness this too.
