Congratulations, Faustine Ndugulile, on your nomination as WHO African Region Regional Director. This is an extremely fulfilling role & despite the challenges, I know you will take the baton & go on to accelerate the gains already made, putting the health of the people of Africa at the centre.
We're working with Lake Chad Basin countries & GPEI to #EndPolio. This #RC74AFRO, Chris Elias & I met with health ministers to agree on a robust incident management system in Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon and #CAR to ensure synchronized vaccinations & cross-border coordination.
We’ve made progress against preventable maternal & child deaths, but we’re stagnating. Today, I joined Austin Demby & partners to discuss reviving momentum. We must advocate at the highest levels of govts & position maternal & child health at the centre of development efforts.
Pleased to meet with Dr Ibrahima SY, Minister of Health, Senegal, to discuss efforts to strengthen public health emergency response. WHO African Region is committed to ensuring optimum operations of our emergency hub in Dakar & grateful to Senegal for hosting this important facility.

Very good meeting with Gambia's Health Minister, Dr Ahmadou Lamin Samateh. Great efforts by the government in strengthening health systems, particularly through investment in infrastructure expansion. WHO African Region is committed to ongoing collaboration to achieve #HealthForAll.
#DRC today received 99,000 #mpox vaccine doses. A further 101,000 are expected this weekend. Grateful to European Commission’s Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority for donating the vaccines. World Health Organization (WHO) & partners are supporting #DRC to reinforce efforts to curb #mpox.
