I've made a world cup reading competition. Each country in the tournament is represented by a text, might be a book, news article, poetry or extract from a book. Students read one & earn points for their form in our school world cup. If it sounds useful, lemme know & I'll share.

A couple of weeks ago we had an icebreaker during my graduate seminar and the question was 'What is your irrational fear?' My answer was 'hammerhead sharks'. And today in class I walked in and saw this:

The simplest tasks can make for excellent retrieval practice. This game of Noughts and Crosses was very well received and appealed to their competitive nature. Students liked being asked to retrieve knowledge from their previous unit.

Was chatting with a colleague today and we were looking at how to use this flowchart to improve both our circulation. It's a bit messy at first, but makes sense when you get stuck in I think. May be useful!

Updated our Revision Booklet for this year including pages on the science of learning, retrieval, spacing and interleaving, deliberate practice, summarising and chunking, dual coding and routines and habits within an effective revision environment. Launching with Year 11 soon!
