In 3 Wicks today we looked at exchanging in Maths. We used Dienes blocks to see how we can exchange 100 into 10 lots of ten. We worked together to take away 10 once we exchanged. Everyone is working so hard! Miss Dacosta :)

In maths this week we have been learning about the tricky concept of rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100! They have learnt a cool rap and a funky rhyme to help them to remember whether to round up or down. 5 to 9, climb the vine 🌿 0 to 4, fall to the floor 🧎🏽

English this week built up to an incredible ending to our book ‘The Paper Bag Princess’ with some beautifully written stories from the children. They have been actively making their writing better through using a range of adjectives, conjunctions and sentence styles!

In history this year we are looking at ‘through the ages’, for the past 4 weeks we have learnt about the Stone Age. Yesterday, we made posters of facts about the monuments and settlements from that time! Look how amazing!

Another week, a new book! The Bear and The Piano is our focus for the next three weeks. The focus this week has been persuasive writing, creating arguments for the Bear to stay in the woods. A really fabulous week and I’m so proud of my 3 wicks! :)

The mathematical genius in 3 Wicks looked at measurements this week. Expanding our understanding on measuring length and mass as well as reading scales accurately through understanding divisions on a scale. P.s share this twitter page to other parents! :)

Just a reminder! Tuesday 10th October is World Mental Health Day and Glimmer Day at Summerswood. This means your child can wear anything that makes them happy to school. In return we ask children to bring a packet of digestives to support with nurture. ❤️

Today we learnt about the Bronze Age and the Beaker folk. We watched a video on the life of a Beaker folk and the inventions such as bronze and wool from sheeps wool! We wrote a diary entry as a Beaker Folk in those times. Really big improvements in our writing!

Today in Maths we looked at using concrete pictorial and abstract when adding using column method. This really helped the children to understand.
