It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that the Mishawaka Fire Department announces the passing of Retired Fire Chief Dale Freeman. Chief Freeman dedicated 36 years of his life to serving our community, with 19 of those years as the esteemed leader of our department.

We would like to thank Bethel University and Physical Plant Director Joe Zappia for allowing our recruits to train in a dorm building on campus today.
The building was vacant due to summer break and was a great location for a search and rescue training.

While getting more comfortable with docks, Akina slipped into the river. Her owner called for help. A County Police officer arrived quickly and was able to keep her head above the water. FF Vincent entered the water and was able to lift the dog back onto the dock.

Firefighters: You can now access free training on the impact of ventilation on fire dynamics. Fire Safety Research Institute courses are focused on coordinated ventilation and suppression tactics for structure fires.

Here we go! Yesterday C-Shift was able to teach “Survive Alive” to Mishawaka Catholic students at St. Bavo. We’re looking forward to seeing the kids in their classrooms this year.

Mianna wanted to see some fire trucks, so her dad brought her by station 3. Capt Hess was happy to show her around!

Lt. Clucker helped Mayor Wood’s team take first place in the Elkhart Grand Prix!

MFD participated in the Courage and Valor 5k at FDIC in Indianapolis.
