Confused by all the "what is epigenetics" discourse? Well I have just the thing for you -- presenting the Epigenetics Alignment Chart!

Biophysics question: In transcription, RNApol generates positive supercoils ahead of it and negative ones behind it WHY? Why doesn’t RNApol instead simply track 1 strand of the duplex, follow its helical twist along the duplex, and thus rotate without any supercoil generation?

One molecule at a time, we made our way from diffusing cohesin on DNA and CTCF, to loop-extruding one. While the CTCF N-terminus is consistently more successful in prohibiting cohesin bypass for diffusing and extruding complexes, ...

Furthermore, the interaction can be pretty short-lived. A cohesin can be blocked by CTCF, let partially go of the loop, then try, again, etc. The system is very dynamic! If a cohesin loses parts of the loop and continue extruding away from the CTCF is also tension-controlled.

Extremely excited to preprint this fascinating story. Spearheaded by super-talented postdoc Hui Li Hui Li we found how virulence function diversity may be achieved in an effector repertoire! The Sainsbury Laboratory #mpmi #effectorsrock x.com/biorxiv_plants…

Pathogens are notorious for producing diverse effector proteins that manipulate host cellular processes. But how is functional diversity generated in an effector repertoire? Thrilled to share our fascinating story. biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh…… #biorxiv_plants

It is a general truth that complex feedback regulations exist in biological systems, in order to achieve the flexibility of the system in response to environmental stimuli while ensuring stability within the system. This logic is different from the simple linear logic.

Minglei (@minglei_yang_) 's Twitter Profile Photo

In particular, the complex feedback conditions between the non-coding transcription and chromatin regulations. Using linear logic to understand the biological system is like the story where a blind man tried to understand what the elephant looks like by touching it.

With elegant experiment designs and analysis, this article showed how plant systems are using parallel input signals and sophisticated feedback to ensure that plants correctly recognize the cold “winter” rather than cold “stimuli”, ensuring the plants bloom in the right season.
