Not content with ancient works, I began to get the itch to write myself, not to show off my more or less non-existent erudition but in order to bring forcibly into the light things lost in the rubbish-heap of the past. -William of Malmesbury

Hope that in my second year, i will have a paper to participate in this competition. Anyway, how great it would be to see this great conference with my own eyes!

One day at dinner, -Anselm (beating his breast): I’m sinful because I once ate raw herring! It’s against law to consume raw flesh! -Eadmer: No worries. The salt had removed the rawness from the fish. -Anselm (turning tears into singles): Good boy. You’ve saved my life!

-Wulfstan II (gently stroking Nicholas’s head): I think you will go bald. -Nicholas (looking sad): Why can’t you keep them there? -Wulfstan (beaming):Believe me, they will never disappear, so long as I live. So after Wulfstan’s death, all Nicholas’s hair disappeared.

Does anyone know where William of Malmesbury said he had given up the opportunity to become abbot in 1140? I have seen many scholars mentioning this, but no one gave a citation. WM did mention the abbot election in Ch. 35 in HN, but to me that text does not include such a sense.

So happy to find the origin at last. It is from WM’s Itinerarium, whose fragments were kept in Leland’s book: ‘socio nostro cederemus in abbatia suscipienda, qua levi negotio plus quam semel potiri potuissemus.’

Anyone knows what MS. Reg. App. 85 stands for? I cannot even google out any information of this manuscript except William Stubbs mentioning of it once.😭

I hate to say this during Christmas, but Hermes is the worst express company I have ever seen! Every time sending to the wrong place... Why can this company still exist?!
