Also very interesting that it is civil penalties for those who don’t comply so easy enough for richer parents to pay their way out.

This is also the generation of kids who had years of their school life in lockdown to protect (mostly) an older generation and have mostly done so without any complaint at all. And the response to suggest they need to be compelled via conscription in order to feel responsible.

The “national service pledge” is somehow a particularly awkward idea for this new generation who are incredibly politically engaged and socially responsible and care deeply about the planet and its future and have spent much of their young lives being sneered at for being woke.
