SAVE THE DATE! The NRC (along with MCW Comprehensive Injury Center, Marquette University Law School & Marquette University Andrew Center) is hosting a luncheon series starting on Jan. 22nd! Join us for lunch where we'll dive into what research tells us about the impacts of #stress & #trauma on brain function! Details to follow!🧠🧑⚖️
Among Black trauma survivors, exposure to racial discrimination (RD) predicts future PTSD symptoms. In a new BrainBehavImm paper, we investigated whether alterations to pro-inflammatory and antiviral transcription control pathways helped explain this association.
Interestingly, we didn't see direct effects w/ PTSD symptoms. Future directions include examining other outcomes (depression) and looking further out (is expression still elevated at 1 year?) Always a pleasure to work w/ Claire Maria Bird, PhD and the Milwaukee Trauma Outcomes Project team! <3
Another member of our team, Jacey Kant, Research Program Coordinator, presented at the American Association of Suicidology conference as well. She presented on some of the recent work of the division done in collaboration with MCWTraumaACS and with the support of Milwaukee Trauma Outcomes Project.
