TGIFF! We're a mere 2⃣ days away from Week 1 #DENvsSEA! Three Denver Broncos stand out who wore—or currently wear—No. 2⃣ in FB/RB Cookie Gilchrist (1965 1st-team All-AFL), left-footed punter Mike Horan (1988 1st-team All-Pro), and precocious Patrick Surtain (2022 1st-team All-Pro)!
Happy Birthday to No. 7⃣8⃣ Ryan Clady! The Denver Broncos drafted Clady in the 2008 first round. He was an immediate starter at LT. As a Bronco, Clady was a 2× 1st-team All-Pro (2009, 2012), 2nd-team All-Pro (2008), 4× Pro Bowler (2009, 2011, 2012, 2014), and a PFWA All-Rookie!
Happy Birthday to No. 5⃣6⃣/9⃣1⃣ Robert E. Ayers Jr! The Denver Broncos drafted Ayers in the 2009 1st round. He came up with big plays in big moments, including a fumble recovery TD on MNF as a rookie and game-changing sacks in two playoff games!
Sept. 6, 1992 — In Week 1, John Elway led the Denver Broncos back from another fourth quarter deficit for a 17–13 victory over the L.A. Raiders on TNT's SNF! Reggie Rivers scored the winning TD. DEN's defense forced 5 turnovers, including a Michael Brooks 54-yard scoop-and-score.
#DENvsSEA WEEK — Nov. 17, 2002 — Denver's defense forced three turnovers, Clinton Portis racked up 188 total yards and Steve Beuerlein threw TD passes to Hape and Rod Smith following a Brian Griese injury in a 31–9 rout. This was the last time the Broncos won in Seattle.
Just 1⃣ more day until Week 1 #DENvsSEA will finally be here! Jason Elam wore No. 1⃣ as Denver's placekicker from 1993–2007. As a Bronco, Elam won two Super Bowls, was a 3× All-Pro, tied a then-NFL record in 1998, had 24 game-winning/game-saving FGs, and is now a Ring of Famer!
Sept. 7, 1998 — The Denver Broncos began the defense of their first Super Bowl title by defeating the New England Patriots for the 11th straight time 27–21 on MNF! John Elway threw a TD pass to shannon sharpe. Sharpe also had a filthy block! Terrell Davis scored 2 rushing TDs.
#DENvsSEA GAME DAY/OTD — Sept. 8, 1996 — The Denver Broncos defeated the Seahawks 30–20 at the Seattle Kingdome. John Elway threw touchdown passes to Aaron Craver and Anthony Miller and rushed for another. Terrell Davis had 148 total yards. Ray Crockett had a FF on a QB sack.
Sept. 9, 1960 — In the AFL's inaugural game, the Denver Broncos defeated the Patriots 13–10 in Boston. Frank Tripucka connected with Al Carmichael on a 59-yard pass play for the new circuit's first touchdown. Eugene Mingo returned a punt 76 yards for Denver's other score.
Sept. 9, 2007 — Racing against the clock, Jason Elam connected from 42 yards out as time expired to give the Denver Broncos a 15–14 opening day victory over the Bills in Buffalo on a play known as "Toro"! Jay Cutler threw for 304 yards and a touchdown pass to BEAST.
We mourn the passing of No. 5⃣7⃣ Allen Aldridge Jr today. Allen Aldridge was a 1994 Denver Bronco 2nd round draft pick. He played LB/ST for DEN from 1994–1997. Aldridge is a Super Bowl XXXII champion and had one of the biggest plays in team history with his 1997 AFCCG end zone INT.
Sept. 9, 2012 — Peyton Manning resumed his illustrious NFL career, as a Denver Bronco, and helped lead his new team to a 31–19 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on SNF in front of a raucous home crowd! Manning threw for 253 yards and TDs to Demaryius Thomas (RIP) and Jacob Tamme.
