In August 1805, a large scale military encampment took place on the Curragh of Kildare. Six divisions of troops took their place on the plains. On the bugle signal and in little more than two minutes, tents were erected and the camp was formed. curragh.info/archives/Curra…

USS Oklahoma, USS Nevada & USS Utah were all struck in the Japanese attack on #PearlHarbor, with the loss of over 500 lives. All 3 had previously served in Ireland during #WW1– here are images of them in Bantry Bay, #Cork.

25th December 1944, Lt. Colin Gunner 1 RIrF: "When Brian Clark sent a piper out on Christmas Day into the snowfields, the German paratroopers applauded & a member of the German Army wandered into our lines with a bottle of Cognac to drink a toast with his brothers at the front."

#OnThisDay 1776 The US Continental army inflicted a small but pivotal defeat on Hessian forces at Trenton, New Jersey. The Americans capture 900 enemy soldiers & lose 2 themselves. One of the US leaders is General John Sullivan whose parents were from Cork. #Ireland #History
