At the UoD Geotechnics we have access to some excellent equipment for material characterisation! In this case Mercury intrusive porositmery and XRD were used to check out the pore space and material composition respectively! Can you guess what one has a high clay account?
Congratulations to Professor Michael Brown and Science & Eng, UoD, whose work with Heerema HFG to develop “silent foundations” for offshore wind turbines won IMCA’s Environmental Sustainability award 🌊 🏆 Read more about the project here 👉 buff.ly/2Yod5Yw
Great presentation from Dr Robert Bird at NUMGE2023 (@ImperialCiveng) on modelling Cone Penetration Tests (CPTs) using the material point method as part of Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council-funded project (EP/W000970/1). The model was validated using UoD Geotechnics centrifuge data.
Our first MPM-based anchor penetration simulation from our Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council-funded project on protecting offshore wind power cables in collaboration with UoD Geotechnics and BGS. Things to fix but good progress. See here: wmcoombs.github.io/Cable-Burial/ to learn more about the project.
We're very proud to reveal that the #ICEAwards 2023 Geotechnical Research Medal has been won by our paper on Physical Modelling of Screw Piles in Geotechnique: shorturl.at/fNOU2, joint with Durham & Soton. Thanks to project partners and Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council for funding 🏅
A chance to join our team at UoD Structural Engineering! Lectureship in Structural Engineering available here in Dundee, details at shorturl.at/bnovK
