With 114 individuals the Small Skipper was by far the most numerous butterfly on this week transects. We finished just shy of last weeks total with only 498 individuals counted from 18 species. Another successful trap overnight with 3 NYG/NFY - Elephant Hawk-moth (finally), Shoulder-striped Wainscot and Bird-cherry Ermine. Also Box-tree Moth, Silver Y and Scarce Footman with a couple of micros out for consultation B74 VC38 SK10 BC Warwickshire EcoRecord Ruth Newby

Sound the first for Warwickshire siren! Acleris umbrana is a micro moth that Alan Prior (one of our moth experts), suspects is a first county record. This individual was caught as part of a moth trapping survey near Bidford-upon-Avon on 30th June.

A species which has recently been moving northwards and looks to have finally reached Warwickshire. Amongst the catch of 2000+ individual moths of 169+ species were Kent black arches and Tree lichen beauty - 2 other northward spreading moths #mothmonday 📷 Alan Prior
