Scotland’s offshore “protections” leave much of our seabed at risk with MPAs still open to damage. More protection = more fish, more jobs, a healthier sea & more resilient coastal communities. This is just 1/2 of the equation, urgent action is needed in inshore waters too 🌊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Again, science shows that protection works! We campaigned for years to #BanBottomTrawling in the Menorca Channel. Scientific research by Instituto Español de Oceanografía (IEO-CSIC) & CSIC now shows that coralligenous habitats & algal forests have thrived & expanded inside protected areas since the ban.

🌊 Great news! Spain has just approved 5 new marine protected areas and 1 special protection area for birds—covering 17,000 km². 🇪🇸 This brings protected waters to 22.45%, closing in on the 25% target for 2025. Next step: ensuring effective management! bit.ly/4mTzohE
