Defoliation trial. Untreated trees in 1st photo and various treatments after that. Prior work has shown these treatments to result in accelerated natural senescence, complete with nutrient remobilization into the buds and increased cold tolerance.

Pollen for crosses. Collect blossom clusters @ pink. With a sharp blade slice thru the blossom about 1/3 the way up the sepal. Sieve thru a screen. Ripen until dehiscent w/warm light. When pollen is observed the anthers/pollen can be placed in a pill bottle for the field.
