Yesterday I ventured out to see my friend Rollo in Panto Albert Halls Bolton. Walking along the corridors are oils of Mayors of Bolton, Lancs in the 19th/20th C. Civic pride oozed out of every brick. When I wrote my The Real Counties of Britain book my plea to politicians was when

Thank you 🫡 UK Supreme Court for flying the Middlesex flag on Middlesex Day. The continuance of our 1300 year old historic County always has Westminster at its heart: our County Council is no longer but there is a beautiful bronze memorial to Middlesex Regiment in UK Supreme Court.

Born #OTD in 1879 was British Army 🇬🇧 veteran Vivian Woodward. He served in the Footballers ⚽️ Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment. He played for England 🦁 Tottenham Hotspur & Chelsea FC among several others. Due to a grenade injury, he couldn't return to football after WWI
