Offering 1-1 mealtime assistance can be powerful & intimate. Set up the space by facing each other to ensure eye contact. Reduce background noise & distractions. Describe the meal, use smell as preparation. Watch carefully & follow their lead #WithSLTuCan

Try offering extra space & time for conversations. Use silence to offer processing time. Match your facial expression to the person you’re listening to. Try offering the words they use back to them as a clear example of your active listening. #WithSLTuCan

What a lovely event to celebrate loved ones that are no longer with us. The tree is beautiful and I know this event is emotional and celebratory.

Delirium treatment framed honestly: there is a lot to it - we need to confront this. Lazy approach: - treat the first cause that comes to mind - give haloperidol reflexively Good approach: - consider multiple aspects - see attached

Human kindness can significantly reduce the distress associated with #delirium. Eye contact, gentle words, reassurance, explanation of context - simple and quick to do, and very effective in improving the experience of the delirious patient. Build this into every interaction.

Let's always slow down & think carefully about the experience of our patients with #delirium. Do they look worried/distressed/frightened?

Shocking reality: 1 in 4 older hospital patients develop #delirium, yet most families have never heard the word. We need to do much better in improving public awareness of delirium.
