Emotional intelligence isn't only about reading others' feelings. It’s also about revealing some of yours. People with expressive faces are better liked—and better negotiators if they’re friendly. Showing emotion is not a sign of weakness. It's a tool for communication and fuel

What is the cost of Parkinson's to society? Have you thought about all the things we should include on the list which contribute to 'the cost?' It is more than you think. Anke Wijers and colleagues take on this very important question in a systematic review in Movement Disorders Journal. Key

Using stereological counting and digital pathology to analyse postmortem brain tissue, Shahidehpour et al. show that tau proteins trigger the development of dystrophic microglia, which then contribute to the spread of Alzheimer’s disease neuropathology. tinyurl.com/yc2f5bwr

This study presents a data-driven sequence of cognitive decline in people with Parkinson’s disease, suggesting executive function and visuospatial ability become abnormal early in PD-related cognitive decline and could guide which tests to prioritise bit.ly/3SwuuL9

Does a worse cognitive (thinking) score eliminate you from Parkinson's DBS? What are the outcomes? Very interesting finding that those who passed cognitive screening for DBS, but who had lower scores, still greatly benefited and did so over time. I want to caution that the data

Pessimism is not an effective strategy for protecting our emotions. Data: We feel worse when our negative expectations are confirmed than when our positive expectations bring disappointment. A recipe for happiness is planning for the worst while continuing to hope for the best.

Do we need a registry for spinal cord stimulation to track outcomes and to drive the field to improve? You bet we do, and Julie G. Pilitsis, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A. inspires us this morning to collect our own data and look for clusters particularly around 'responders and non-responders.' #WSSFN
