What happens when cities tear out highways and build parks ๐ŸŒณ, public transport corridors ๐ŸšŒand segregated bike lanes ๐Ÿšฒ?

โžก๏ธ Traffic gets better.

The phenomenon is called ๐Ÿš—Traffic evaporation๐Ÿš—

Here is how it works ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

Please leave your feedback on this @KIPDA map. It looks innocuous, but itโ€™s got stuff in there like 4+ million for TARC stop improvements, and BRT on Bardstown Road, and bike and sidewalk infrastructure on Dixie and Muhammad Ali! kipda.maps.arcgis.com/apps/Crowdsourโ€ฆ

I think a good compromise for the Cherokee/Iroquois Loop debate would be to open it to vehicles but only ones that say TARC on the side

What if every mayor in every city talked about deaths from cars, even just hit and run deaths, after they happened, like @mayormke justifiably did here? That would be 2,783 press conferences alone in the US (using last available 2021 data).

Ryan Massey Mayor Craig Greenberg Kentucky Derby From where the #29 ends to get to Churchill Downs it's a 2 mile 45 min walk. From the end of the #4 it's 1.7 miles at 38 mins. The best route is probably #63 but that's still over a mile walk down Central.

While it may seem like a simple bureaucratic question, agency structure can have a huge impact on a city's ability to complete quality transportation projects.

What type of structure does your city have?

Louisville had 129 deaths on our roadways in 2021.

San Francisco only had 27.

We have 477% more deaths & they have 40% more population.

What are we doing wrong? One thing is no dedicated funding for slow streets.

Email the Metro Council committee now. tinyurl.com/bdcp3f3b

Nashville Department of Transportation is spending $12.5 mil for safety/traffic calming, $5 mil for bike lanes (less than last year)! What's in Louisville's budget?

Nashville is also funding $28.6 million in bike, ped safety improvements, including $16 from its SS4A USDOT grant. nashville.gov/sites/default/โ€ฆ

The routes that get you closest to Churchill Downs are Routes #4 Fourth Street (one of our most frequent routes), #6 Sixth Street, and #29 Eastern Parkway. With street closures for this weekend, each has detours and will require walking. More: ridetarc.org/rideralert-detโ€ฆ
