OTD in 1865 POTUS #16 #AbrahamLincoln was struck down watching the play Our American Cousin at Ford's Theatre NPS by assassin John Wilkes Booth. The kinder Reconstruction Abe envisioned was never 2 be. The Union he restored still bore the stain of inequity & racism.Such a loss😞
1923-Born OTD in NYC was fantastic comedian Don Adams. His greatest role (Agent 86) was in 1 of my all time favorite spoos of spy dramas, GET SMART. The show was created by Mel Brooks & made Saturday nites NBC Entertainment must c 📺.Featured Barbara Feldon as Agent 99 /Ed Platt (the Chief)
1945-OTD the Canadian 2nd Army liberates the Dutch Nazi transit camp, Kamp Westerbork on the very day that FDR died. My parents, 2 among the ~ 800 inmates left in the Kamp, could take their yellow Jewish stars off. My parents are gone now, but this will always be a day 2 remember
1957- 1 of the greatest courtroom dramas ever created, 12 Angry Men, was released OTD. Produced & starring #HenryFonda & directed by #SidneyLumey , the film was critically acclaimed but had so-so box office response. But watch it. It might restore your faith in the jury system🎥👏🏻
