Fascinating read from Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) with some really beautiful data viz!
As they recommend, in hopes of inspiring others & normalising giving, I'll share that I donate 4% of my take home pay every month by direct debit. With one-off donations, goal is to donate 5.5% of my pay annually.
News of British Youth Council's closure is another stark reminder of how our sector is affected by the #CostOfGivingCrisis . Today we send our thoughts to all those affected, tomorrow we continue to fight for the urgent support needed so communities don't lose more vital orgs in the future.
Today my local food bank served its largest number of guests *ever*. It's only open for 3 hours/week but served almost 400 people collecting for 1,450 people. Yes this is still a cost of living crisis & yes it's still a #CostofGving crisis for charities facing unprecedented need.
But there are also many barriers that prevent charities bidding to deliver public services in the first place. We’re not convinced the Procurement Act will change that, but we’ll keep advocating for the sector. You can share your own experiences at [email protected].

Stark findings from the Charity Commission today - 42% of charity trustees experienced poor customer service from their bank in the last year! Lack of appropriate banking services is a massive risk to the voluntary sector.

'Charities and councils will be watching to see whether the chancellor extends the #HouseholdSupportFund .' writes BBC cost of living correspondent Colletta Smith in her morning update ahead of today's #SpringBudget2024 announcement.

Over 300 voluntary orgs generously shared their experiences of delivering public services. These are services that communities rely on, and they are at crisis point.
HM Treasury this is a crisis that nobody can afford. Public services need more funding, NOW. #Budget2024
In November, we delivered a letter to the #Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, co-signed by over 1,400 charities, calling for urgent action to address underfunding of public services delivered by charities. This week, we received a response from @HMTreasury.

📢 87% of organisations say they are subsidising their government grants and contracts.
This has been an issue for decades – but the impact can’t be avoided any longer.
Ahead of next week’s #Budget2024 , you can help raise awareness around the issue by sharing our infographic 👇
One of the biggest issues affecting charities in 2024 is the looming general election. Our Policy and Public Affairs Manager, Chris Walker gives his advice for charities looking to get involved.
