Tip number 3: How to enjoy whisky as a local We'll keep this one short and sweet, it's #whisky not scotch, a dram not a shot, and should be savoured slowly! Not sure what to order? Ask the barman, he'll be delighted to help, we always recommend trying local distilleries.

Tip number 4: Embrace the weather We can easily have four seasons in one day, any day of the year! One moment you can be enjoying the sun dappling on the hills and the next grabbing your raincoat. Don't let a change in weather dampen your holiday spirits!

Tip number 5: Don't overwhelm tourist spots If opting to join a tour group or day excursion we always recommend choosing a small, bespoke tour. We are happy to help advise, just ask at reception or ahead of your holiday with us.

Tip number 6: Don't let the midges bring you down! The west coast + water + summer = peak midge season! They are harmless but can be irritating, come prepared with midge repellant (Avon skin so soft many swear by!) and/or a net hat.
