The Livestock Bill 2023 proposed by the Ministry defines live animals as “commodity”, and defines livestock to include “canines and felines” .

This allows the import and export of live dogs and cats to be used for meat consumption & other purposes.

The first Livestock law in 1898 and its amendment 100 years later in 2001 did not mention cats & dogs. SO WHY NOW?
