The story: Josh Smith and Kirby Yates are your heroes. Smith drove in the go-ahead run in the top half of the ninth, Kirby Yates pitched 1.1 scoreless innings to close it out. Dane Dunning was also good.

Record: 10-9

Weird vibes. The game is still going on but the park feels and looks practically empty because fans were asked to move to cover.

It has suddenly gotten very dark and cloudy here in Detroit. Kirby Yates is on to finish off the bottom of the ninth with the Rangers up 5-4.

Josh Smith, of course, has driven in the go-ahead run as a pinch hitter.

He lined the first pitch he saw from Shelby Miller into right-center to score Ezequiel Duran from second and give the Rangers a 5-4 lead.

The defensive tides are turning in the Rangers' favor. Ezequiel Duran reached on a hard-hit ball that ricocheted off of Torkelson's glove (ruled a single) and Evan Carter reached on an E3.

Yates struck out Gio Urshela to end the inning. Jonah Heim, Ezequiel Duran and Evan Carter are due up in the top of the ninth vs. RHP Shelby Miller.

Kirby Yates will come on and attempt to get the final out of the eighth inning. There are runners on first and second with two outs in the inning.
