Looking forward to being on the panel for this Conservative Environment Network event on Tues at Conservative Party Conference in Manchester. It’s in the CEN room, stand 80 in the main hall at 10.30am. I’m then going to be signing copies of Political Animals at the Blackwell’s shop, stand 86, at 12noon.
As ever, some excellent and thoughtful fringe sessions courtesy of the Conservative Environment Network team at #CPC25 on a range of subjects. And a timely reminder that concern for the #environment is locked into the Tory DNA. Thanks to the whole team for all their work to deliver the programme.
Misjudged, counterproductive, impossible. In the Daily Express Harriet Cross MP rightly calls for Labour's Clean Power target to be dropped. To achieve effective climate action it cannot come at the expense of higher energy bills and community consent being overridden.
Blaming Brexit for nature loss shows Rory Stewart knows nothing about farming. It was the EU system that ignored nature and hurt small farms. ELMs - created outside the EU - empowered farmers to restore nature. Even as a Remainer, I can see Brexit was fantastic for nature.
I again spoke out against the Chagos Islands “deal”. It betrays British Chagossians & risks one of the world’s most pristine marine environments. Labour’s forcing this through, handing £35bn of taxpayers’ money to Mauritius with no guarantees on protection or rights. Conservative Environment Network
Great to see Aphra Brandreth speaking out against the dreadful Chagos deal, given the impact it will have on the marine environment. It’s outrageous that the government has failed to secure any meaningful guarantees that this precious environment will be protected.
In the UK, the price of energy is spiraling. But in British Columbia, the government pays less than half of what Britain does for renewable energy. My new case study for Conservative Environment Network shows how British Columbia used deregulation to unleash private investment in renewable energy. 🧵👇
