why watch overtime playoff hockey when you can simply snort cocaine and ride a motorcycle out of a helicopter

“Dissent must never lead to disorder”

Every major right we’ve ever achieved in this country has come after dissent and disorder, so kindly fuck off.

Shameful speech by the President as campuses have unleashed police on students—he blames protesters as the problem & ignores the violence they've faced.

If dissent was crucial to our democracy, you would spend more time listening to their demands than lying about their tactics.

I have trespassed in peaceful protest.
I have shutdown govt offices in civil disobedience.
I have made the powerful uncomfortable in their routines as I’ve dissented in peaceful but committed disorder.

Feels kind of silly to have to say this but damage to property is not violent. Shooting college students in the face with rubber bullets is extremely violent however. Hope that helps

Columbia faculty are still locked out of our campus the day after NYPD violently stormed a building occupied by student protestors. Today we took to the streets. Here is Prof Rashid Khalidi on the shameful repression of protest. fsjp-cbt

I feel like I'm losing my mind a little: people understand that 'occupying buildings on campus' is, like, one of the most common forms of studen protest for decades and not some devious new ploy devised by professional anarchist plotters, right?

So just as a level-set here: the best understanding I have of these campus protests are that they are not at all violent, though they may be irritating and at times disruptive (kinda *the point* of a protest), and we’re sending in storm troopers to break them up? Have I got that?

I wish all NYU faculty arrested for protecting students protesting for Palestinian liberation a very let’s fucking go

Bottom line is that by the same logic that demonstrating at a dean's private party for graduates is assholery, being permitted to do so peacefully in the public domain of a university campus is essential. Fuck Columbia's administration for having their own students arrested.

Shai, sweetheart, you're under investigation because FIFTY students have complaints against you. You've been on here for months encouraging the NYPD to arrest your students. Have you seen how violent those arrests are? I said 'boop.'

I am not the one. Please go play elsewhere.

It’s pretty staggering this man has not been barred from teaching at Columbia, while its leadership had no trouble authorizing NYPD to mass arrest students and decided to suspend and evict others in a matter of minutes. Truly broken leadership at Columbia.
