Today marks the official end of my PhD journey with the publication of the last of my work done in Gareth Miles . We looked at an idea of developmental excitatory : inhibitory synaptic biases underlying early ALS pathology. Thanks to all who supported me! doi.org/10.1371/journa…

Neat wee study in which we confirm that somatostatin interneurons in the dentate gyrus activate GABAB receptors on granule cells and perforant path terminals. Not only that, but the GABA they release appears to be regulated only by neuronal uptake! eneuro.org/content/early/…

Does anyone have (or know of someone else who has) access to human #ALS muscle biopsy samples? We have a very cool paper nearly ready for submission, but would love to validate our findings in some patient material (hopefully a quick and easy experiment!) 🤞🤞🤞 Please RT

Interested in synaptic neuroscience? We have an open PhD student position for exploring how rapid remodelling of astrocytes controls excitory synapse function and their plasticity. Further details on the project and the position can be found here: tinyurl.com/yucjmfsu

It's a start! Multiplexed high-res imaging of 5 synapse markers in mouse spinal cord aligned across 2 rounds of labelling (PSD95-green, Gephyrin-yellow, VGLUT1-blue, GAD65-cyan, Synapsin-magenta). Lets see how many more I can add! Thanks to Tenovus Scotland & Synaptic Systems

How a crying baby is similar to denoising an ephys rig: 1) There's noise and you don't know why 2) You need to stay grounded 3) You have superstitious beliefs about what actions stop the noise 4) These actions work sometimes but not always 5) The noise can randomly start again
