Lent is not a sad time! It is a time of mercy, time for good news — God’s salvation is near to us! Let us prepare ourselves to enter into Lent this week, readying our hearts for purification through fasting, prayer, and almsgiving!

#Lent is a time in which the Church, guided by a sense of maternal care, invites us to place the mystery of God back in the center of our lives, in order to find renewal in our faith and keep our hearts from being consumed by the anxieties and distractions of daily life.

The #GospelOfTheDay (Mt 4:1-11) invites us to view Lent as a luminous path. Through prayer, fasting and almsgiving, we can renew our cooperation with the Lord, so He can craft our lives as unique masterpieces.

Do not be ashamed when temptations come your way. They remind us of our human frailty and the need for the Lord’s divine grace. He was tempted in the desert and proved victorious over the Evil One. In him and with prayer and the Sacraments we too can defeat temptations!

In conclusion, just as through one transgression condemnation came upon all, so, through one righteous act, acquittal and life came to all” Romans 5:18 Do I live a life of gratitude for what Jesus did for me? Peace

Temptation is a fact of life — to be human is to be subject to temptation. Every temptation is like the one Jesus faced — the temptation to doubt who we are and that God really loves us. To doubt that we are beloved sons and daughters and that he has a loving plan for our lives.

Today the Church celebrates the Feast of the Chair of Saint Peter, Apostle. Today’s feast places the Chair or “Cathedra” of Saint Peter at the center of our attention – or rather the specific mission Jesus entrusted to Peter. Saint Peter, pray for us!

Jesus overcomes temptation with prayer, fasting, and seeking guidance in the Scriptures. This is how we can also stop temptation — we need to make the Scriptures a shield. If we keep the Word of God close to our hearts, then we will be strengthened against sin and temptation.

Mary said “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.” Her “yes” changed history forever. What could your “yes” to God change today?
