Safer communities can be achieved by providing kids – especially those who are system-involved – with less barriers to education, employment & a safe place to live. We're working w/Matthew Willard to increase the ease for children to obtain state ID cards and birth certificates.

Rep. Matthew Willard⁩, a New Orleans Democrat, proposed a bill that would pause for two years the mandate that Citizens customers pay 10% more than market rate. nola.com/news/politics/…

World didn’t end. In fact, after the market calmed, private companies bought the policies OUT of citizens and rates stabilized.

This is prioritizing corporate profit over affordability.

Why should people pay a +10% noncompete penalty when NO ONE ELSE WILL GIVE YOU A POLICY?

Matthew Willard⁩ is 1000% right.

I authored legislation to pause the 10% premium on Citizens after Katrina for 2 years when private carriers would not write policies.

Proposals to pause higher Citizens premiums fails in Louisiana nola.com/news/politics/…

Another cause of concern for eliminating the three year rule. Who will pick up the policies that insurance companies drop 🤔 The taxpayers via LA Citizens! Not good, but I hope I’m wrong.

Tonight, the House voted to eliminate the three year rule protection in Louisiana. This will be devastating for many homeowners in Louisiana, and it will force more policyholders onto LA Citizens. I really hope that I’m wrong here…

Rep. Matthew Willard explains that SB1 is not about public safety or the constitution because:
🚨 More untrained people with guns on the streets doesn’t make us safer
🚨And the legislation is unnecessary if the Constitution guarantees the right to permitless carry

House Democrats strongly oppose Governor Jeff Landry's decision not to participate in the federal Summer EBT program and urge him to reverse course. The Summer EBT program helps feed nearly 600,000 Louisiana children with food insecurity.
