"True NRC modernization would require the agency to adopt the standard set in the 1990 amendments to the Clean Air Act." Read a new whitepaper from Adam Stein, Spencer Toohill, and Matthew L. Wald for @thebti: thebreakthrough.org/issues/energy/…

Nuclear-grade concrete is 1.5x the price of regular concrete, and is one of the most used materials in nuclear construction. Matthew L. Wald breaks down a few examples of how some companies are trying to reduce costs by cutting out some concrete:

Public understanding of the #iran weapons program is poor. There may be confusion in the Trump administration too. A simple explanation of some points: shorturl.at/kUbGq

"Iran has enriched uranium far beyond what is necessary for either civilian energy or medical use, but has stayed short of the threshold of a weapon, creating public uncertainty." Matthew L. Wald breaks down Iran's nuclear program. Read here: thebreakthrough.org/issues/energy/…

Even though the news cycle turns at a breakneck speed, we shouldn't forget the events of last week. "The secret of nuclear weapons is that there is no secret." My Breakthrough colleague Matthew L. Wald on Iran and its nuclear program: breakthroughjournal.org/p/irans-nuclea…

Mention #artificialintelligence and #energy and people wrongly assume that A.I. only consumes. In fact, it makes #nuclear plants more productive, as Dr. Hash Hashemian president of the American Nuclear Society, explains here: shorturl.at/Qvdky @TVA American Nuclear Society

One reason it's so hard to get the #carbon out of the electric system is we can't build transmission. If you've ever been to a public hearing on a proposed power line, you realize that the interested public is not the same as the public interest. My take: shorturl.at/3V4EN

New from me: political thinkers debating America’s future should avoid too narrowly conflating solar success with good energy policy. The political and technical messiness of the grid will pose complex challenges to both the abundance camp and its critics. 🧵

Ask Google for news outlets in Georgia. AI lists the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Atlanta NPR station, and gov't & opposition newspapers in Tbilisi. AI doesn't see any difference. Good for humans, because we do? Or doom, because soon idiot computers will be in charge?

Ed, it's been obvious for years that Russia wants to steal the reactor. But as you know, since Russia blew up the dam that was the main source of cooling water, this isn't practical. thebreakthrough.org/issues/energy/…

A formerly secretive nuclear weapons plant now courts artificial intelligence data centers, and reactors to power them. Plus other nuclear news: lnkd.in/eV9KfJVp

Jewelry heists in Paris and Queens, measles outbreaks around the country, the president wants to explode nuclear bombs to scare our enemies, and Utah and Florida want to ban fluoride in the water. I feel like I'm re-living my childhood in the 1950s.

The current global supply vs future demand gap looks smaller but poses similar big barriers for countries aiming to avoid dependence on Russian enrichment. Proud of this major work by our analyst alumna Juzel Lloyd alongside Adam Stein, Peter Cook, Matthew L. Wald + myself.
