In Obamacare, as in Medicaid & food stamps, House bill chooses to increase administrative burdens & reap savings from paperwork failures, politically easier than directly cutting benefits; cutting immigrant eligibility is other politically palatable route: nytimes.com/2025/06/05/ups…

Since 2016, 1 notable pro-GOP shift has come from Latinos. How did Latinos shift towards a party taking strong positions against unauthorized immigration? Will Marble & I use population-based panel surveys to help answer that in a new paper: osf.io/preprints/soca… Quick 🧵

If cabinet secretaries want to reverse or reduce their DOGE staff or contract cuts, they now have an opening to have Trump walk back & blame Elon. Trump has already gotten credit for reversing on unpopular policy. But congressional & Vought agendas likely get harder.

A lot of US cities have experienced population decline, and some never recovered to their peak populations. Still, many of these places reached peak household counts in 2020. In a new blog post, I discuss this trend, and its important implications for urban housing supply

Overnight, MI House Republicans reduced proposed cuts to UofM & MSU from 92% & 73% to 65% & 18% & moved $ to other universities (rather than to scholarships) to pass bill on floor: detroitnews.com/story/news/pol… Long way to go. Other states seeing similar efforts?

Based on hundreds of crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6m people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. Mobilized anti-Trump resistance is exceeding 2017 levels. 🧵

Dads are spending 3-4x as much time with their kids as their dads did with them. When father figures are engaged, kids show better cognitive development, boys have fewer behavioral problems, and girls have fewer emotional problems. Every child deserves strong parental bonds.

Trump likely to try to legalize DOGE cuts through last-minute "pocket" recissions, citing much smaller precedents. Would be a substantial route to unilateral presidential spending cuts if it works. nytimes.com/2025/06/17/us/…
