Jesuit is trending... ...so we'll remind you that we are a coalition of Jesuit College and University workers fighting against austerity and for a dignified workplace for all. #Jesuit institutions claim to advocate for social justice, but they don't walk the walk.

Very exciting! Imagine how much higher we could climb in the rankings, especially in our teaching, if we paid all faculty and graduate instructors a living wage, offered health care, and had secure contracts! Our student’s learning conditions are our teaching conditions, afterall

I hope everyone in higher ed is watching what's unfolding today at Emporia State University. They just suspended tenure and fired five professors from the English department.

AAUP Happy Hour this Thursday (9/22) at 4pm at Third Space Brewing (1505 W. St. Paul Ave). The weather forecast looks great so we’ll plan on being outside. Feel free to share with colleagues or, even better, bring them along!

Marquette Community: By now many of you have heard of BIPOC students for the protest of freshman convocation. Leading up to this event, students attempted to engage Marquette about the legitimate concerns students of color have about resources on campus. 1/

Several students involved in this action--one taken because of the lack of effort on the part of MU administrators to hear their real concerns--have been charged with student conduct violations. The hearing process has been far from restorative. 2/

The punishments have been disproportionate and onerous. We condemn these hearings and their outcome. We also stand in solidarity with amazing student leaders on campus demanding real action for racial justice on this campus, not mere words. 3/

Students need these resources and need them now! These students were standing up against the fact that something is deeply wrong with the governance structure at MU. They were standing up for a better Marquette—one that we applaud them for and join them in advocating for. 4/

It’s time this administration lived up to their words about racial justice, diversity, and equity, starting by listening to the concerns of our Black and Brown students. Marquette is better than this. Or, MU COULD BE better than this. 5/

In response, Wednesday at 11:50 am. folks will gather outside of 1102 Wisconsin to walk in solidarity with students to the AMU, where they will hand in their appeals. A press conference will follow at 12pm in front the west entrance of the AMU. Please join us!

Two of my MU colleagues have written moving posts at Medium about the the opportunity for honest dialogue and restorative justice that the Convocation protest offered, which has now been lost in the rush to punish: medium.com/@dr.srb/power-… medium.com/@julissaventur…

Students at Marquette University have asked that admin follow through with their promises to not only transform our student body but actually support our students of color. Admin has responded by punishing student leaders and threatening that even worse could be coming.
