Barrington grad Dan Wilson has Seattle right in the division and playoff hunt in his first full season as manager. Sunday, he takes his team to the MLB Little League Classic, where he led Barrington to third place in the 1981 Little League World Series. martymaciaszek.substack.com/p/wilson-makin…

Craig Counsell is preaching patience — can't blame him for that. But there's more at stake for Counsell and Jed Hoyer than they might think, with the Cubs stagnating/slumping and Counsell's former team making both of them look worse: markpotash.net/post/shades-of…

Is there a left tackle in the house? If Ben Johnson is as good as he seems to be, the Bears won't lament coming up one draft spot short of taking Kelvin Banks, the dedicated LT they appear to need, with three weeks to go before the season opener: markpotash.net/post/the-risin…

Nico Hoerner is a better hitter right-handed vs. a right-hander than Ian Happ is left-handed vs. a right-hander. What baseball metrics dispute this?

This is baffling. Regardless of how difficult the decision was, live with the decision you made — and play Caissie. And your “pretty good” OFs haven’t been pretty good for two months or more. Whether the Cubs right the ship or not, this is just poor management.

This explanation by Craig Counsell reminds me of Dave Wannstedt’s response to fans pleading for him to play Marcus Robinson in 1998: “And who am I going to sit — Chris Penn?”

Which is more telling about the Bears’ direction under Ryan Poles/Ben Johnson — that they projected Ozzy Trapilo as an NFL left tackle and bailed on that plan 3 weeks into camp with the hole unfilled? Or that the coaching staff quickly recognized the misjudgment and adjusted? 🤔

Caleb Williams' encouraging performance vs. the Bills might be a sign that the Bears offense has turned the corner or another false positive vs. a second-string defense. One thing is for certain: Sept. 8 can't get here soon enough. markpotash.net/post/caleb-wil…
