People who needed cheap housing in NYC used to be able to “rent a room” in an apartment building with shared kitchens, living rooms, etc. But building this type of shared housing was outlawed in NYC decades ago. Now it’s time to bring it back.

60 years ago, New York banned the most affordable type of homes: shared housing. From young New Yorkers looking for a first place of their own, to aging New Yorkers looking to downsize, shared housing will offer everyone more affordable places to live. Thanks Mark D. Levine!
