As summers get hotter, young trees need more support to thrive ☀️ Will you join us this summer to ensure young trees in your local area have enough to drink?

War is never inevitable. Weapons can and must fall silent, for they never solve problems but only intensify them. Those who sow peace will endure throughout history, not those who reap victims. Others are not enemies to hate but human beings with whom to speak.

The warning couldn’t be clearer. ⚠️ Slashing the nature-friendly farming budget would be catastrophic for the nature and climate crisis, and for our long-term food security. What's more, it would leave the UK Government’s credibility on climate and nature in tatters.

This is big - Scotland could make Ecocide a crime. It won’t be alone if it does - there’s a global push to make this happen.  And why not, we have crimes against humanity - why not crimes against nature and the environment. Laws are how we stop bad stuff happening.

Probably the most significant act by any nature organisation in British history has been the protection of great stretches of our coastline by the National Trust during the last sixty years. Thank God theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/m…

What was the first music you ever bought? This just came on the radio - bought it as a single when it came out. Still sounds so good.

50 years ago Steven Spielberg’s movie Jaws scared the hell out of cinema goers. There’s now up 200 millions tonnes of waste plastic in our oceans. With around 11 million added every year. Quite a bit scarier.

I bought a newspaper today. I haven't done that in a long time. The reason being, the National Trust is giving free family day passes over the summer hols. A day out is fairly expensive so this is a great initiative. Well done National Trust

Marks and Spencer was founded by Michael Marks (מיכאל מאַרקס) a Yiddish-speaking refugee from Belarus. Few of his original colleagues spoke much English. I imagine they faced a lot of racism, but not, thankfully for them, from employees of GB News.

New post: "Britain isn't broken" We have our problems but the doomerism is getting out of hand. I look at the real picture on crime, migration, social cohesion + the economy - rather than the dsyoptian fantasies of the radical right. (£/free trial) open.substack.com/pub/samf/p/bri…

Another alarm call. We need to get masses of food in, through all crossings, urgently. We have a plan, and the world is demanding we be allowed to do our work.
