In 6 years, collared elephant Fitz hasn’t left the Nyakweri Forest once despite his shrinking home–until now. In March, over a 24-hour period, Fitz moved down the escarpment to the border of the reserve. Every elephant movement tells a story. @kwskenya Wildlife Research & Training Institute @angamasafari

During a routine patrol, Pardamat Conservancy rangers monitored a limping sub-adult bull elephant and alerted MEP rangers who found an arrow wound on his leg. The @kwskenya/Sheldrick Wildlife Trust vet treated him on-site. Rangers continue to monitor his recovery.

Mara Elephant Project drone pilots participated in a routine Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) refresher training this week at headquarters. The mandatory training ensures all MEP drone pilots remain up to date with professional industry standards.

He’s back! Elephant #58 returned to Mara North with 4 arrow wounds. @kwskenya Vet Dr. Njoroge from Sheldrick Wildlife Trust treated him with help from the MEP helicopter. He always finds his way to Mara North Conservancy (MNC) for treatment. MEP and MNC rangers are monitoring his recovery

In February, MEP helped @kwskenya and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust treat a mother elephant with a severe leg wound and later reunited her with her calf. This week, MEP rangers monitored the same mom, fully healed and grazing peacefully with her calf—a perfect ending this Mother’s Day weekend!
