It is not often you hear the voice of a golden eagle. A pair of birds have been hanging around this area over spring and summer but it seems unlikely they will settle here as there are no large ledges and there are other eagles nearby. Lovely to see and hear the birds though.

Upper Glen Derry looking stunning between the showers today. Glen Derry is home to some of the oldest trees on the estate, including one pine that is 570 years old, so it's good to see young pines naturally regenerating in this part of the estate for the first time in centuries!

With pioneering work in 1997 NTS removed and re-vegetated the land rover track up Beinn a' Bhuird. The transplanted turfs have survived and grown over time but monitoring highlights how change is slow in this harsh environment and with fragile communities. Photos 1998 & 2024

Ecologist Andy was out doing ecologist things in Glen Lui this morning when he smelled smoke....and this is what he found. A campfire from the weekend, unattended and abandoned, complete with the magic ring of stones that in no way prevents the fire from spreading beyond them.

Made it up either side of the Lairig Ghru at the weekend. Great to see trees popping up at altitude throughout the Lairig Ghru and in the coires. Saw a few pines and rowans up at 800-900m in Coire Odhar and on Carn a' Mhaim along with a few trees on the walk out to the Lairig.
