Repost to share the reminder this #WorldSuicidePreventionDay 👇 Sometimes the hardest words to say are the most important. By having more open conversations, we give people the chance to express how they feel and get the support they need. It could even save a life. 💚

Darzi rightly emphasises the need to 're-engage staff'. But how? We need to recognise the scale & depth of moral injury. How we've normalised a lower standard of care. We need to feel it's possible to do a good job again. To re-engage with what it feels like to do a good job...

My own view, for what it’s worth, is that the NHS is broken in places. It does extraordinary work and offers an extraordinary service to many very sick people, a good enough service to many more and a frankly not good enough service for maybe 10%. The trouble is, when it fails,

Thank you to the many thousands of people across the whole of the NHS & social care who helped deliver the care during the pandemic. Has been a strange and difficult day. But felt it was important to give witness to some small part of the enormity of the challenge we all faced.

At 16 years old, you can be placed in semi-independent care with very little support. In some cases, that could be as little as 3 hours a week, depending on which local authority placed you. You're also automatically called a young adult and expected to survive with no official

But what if the suffering that drives some people into finding life unbearable is avoidable, unnecessary suffering? Suffering that could & would be alleviated - if only UK palliative care services weren’t a threadbare patchwork of appallingly underfunded inadequacy? 1/3

This week we’ve been busy working on #HallParkLightsWorks. Was great chatting to the West Cumbria Guild of Model Engineers to see how their raised model railway track could be illuminated at our event. Hall Park was looking glorious in the autumn sunshine too ✨

As Parliament plans to debate Assisted Dying, it's important to be absolutely certain that avoidable suffering can be managed promptly, with expertise & compassion. This is necessary whatever we think about AD. But *choice means having reliable options at all times. 1/

Programmes get designed & events are held in a place to push a particular 'solution' (typically imported from elsewhere). Imagine if as much care & effort were expended on really listening to and understanding the insights of people living, working in, experiencing that place?

Cervical screening checks for the types of HPV virus which can cause cervical cancers. However, having HPV does not mean that you have or will develop cervical cancer, but it is important you do not miss your cervical screening appointment. It could save your life!

I think I am going to leave Twitter behind - I feel uncomfortable with Elon Musk owning this site. I am going to move across to Bluesky. Looks very similar to what Twitter used to be. Lots of people I follow are already there from #NHS and health & wellbeing.
