It’s fitting that we have our VIP garden party at the end of the year where we can celebrate the growth of these 1st graders along with the growth of the seeds they planted in the garden. It was pure joy to see Ss share their learning with those they love Red Bank Primary #RBBisBIA

“Turtle, turtle…it’s on the grass!” We were surprised to see a small turtle nestled in the grass outside. “Where is the mother? How did it get there? Does it need help?”Their 1st action item…make a sign to inform others and spread the news. Red Bank Primary #RBBisBIA

These 1st grade scientists noticed the geese outside and naturally had questions. This has led us into an inquiry study on geese. So far, Ss shared what they saw & wondered, have done research & made connections with our science unit. More to come…Red Bank Primary #RBBisBIA

Having a variety of activities for Ss to engage in mathematical thinking helps them to make sense of numbers. Our estimation jar allows Ss to observe items, think of a reasonable guess, represent that guess with a written number & explain their thinking. Red Bank Primary #RBBisBIA

“I notice that the beak is a hook, it’s not straight”. Using careful observation, these scientists identified the traits of a baby bird and used that information to match it to the corresponding adult bird. Red Bank Primary #RBBisBIA

After reading one of our favorite books, Monkey Puzzle, Ss were assigned roles & put on a special performance reenacting the story! Ss recalled the sequence of the story, used some dialogue and acted out their role! They are looking fwd to the next one! Red Bank Primary #RBBisBIA

After reading Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, Ss were asked to form an opinion on whether the Pigeon should drive a bus. We discussed and noted reasons why it should/should not drive & Ss orally rehearsed sharing their opinion with reasons and a conclusion. Red Bank Primary
