A memory from 5 years ago, Google Photos reminded us of this day, 5th November 2020, during Covid-19, when the first bookshelf of our Library was being put up. At that moment, it was just a few of us, a half-painted wall, and a dream, to create a space where every child, every

5 years ago today, it started with this shelf. The first bookshelf went up at Bansa Community Library, what began as a small dream in my village became district’s first free community library, now serving thousands of first-generation learners and inspiring rural libraries across India.

It took me 10 years to realize: no matter how much you trust the people around you, don’t tell them everything.

As winter begins to set in, stories bring their own warmth. A young reader leads a read-aloud session at our library courtyard, her voice carrying tales that spark curiosity and comfort alike. Not long ago, books like these were out of reach for most children here in Bansa.

Yesterday, I walked 16,000 steps under a clear blue sky (AQI 38!), read children’s books aloud, and wandered through every lane of my village. Just pure, quiet joy.
