Labour and the SNP want to turn off the taps in the North Sea which would risk hundreds of thousands of jobs and our energy security. Only the Scottish Conservatives back our vital oil and gas sector.

'If everyone is thinking the same, then no one is thinking.' Delighted to challenge the consensus on the affordability of Net Zero 2050 in House of Lords. 👇

Some reflections on the past couple of months now that Parliament is in recess. I was delighted to be asked by Kemi Badenoch to return to the front bench as Shadow Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero in House of Lords. I came into this new brief with an open and enquiring

Did you know that the UK has the highest industrial electricity in the OECD? 5 x USA and 7 x China. No wonder the UK has deindustrialised. No wonder Scunthorpe is under threat, Grangemouth is on the brink and Port Talbot has already shut down.

When Labour negotiates, Britain loses. This is a Government shaped by events, not one in control of them. But according to Labour, it’s everyone else’s fault but theirs.

British Steel ought to be a turning point. No more net zero unilateralism. No more self-indulgence on coking coal. No more naivety on Chinese trade. No more critical infrastructure in Chinese hands. But Labour want to let Chinese firms control our wind turbines.

Why are energy prices cheaper in China and the USA compared to the UK? It’s because of their base load. In China it’s cheap coal and in the USA it’s cheap shale gas.

The electricity grid still uses 26% natural gas. Principally as a backup to the intermittency of wind. Miliband’s grid decarbonisation plan will require: • £116bn of network levies over the next 10 years, amounting to £4,000 per household or £400 per annum. (Aurora Energy

⚛️ A really productive round-table this afternoon with leaders from our Great British Nuclear Industry. 🇬🇧 It is the first of many similar meetings that we are planning as the Conservatives listen to the ideas and develop the energy policies of the future that the UK needs.

Questioning the Minister today in House of Lords. It’s all very well talking up Artificial Intelligence, but how can we capitalise on this when AI data centres are so energy hungry and we have the most expensive industrial energy in the OECD?

The graph below shows all too clearly why we can't rely on wind for base load in the energy system. You cannot guarantee that your hospital appointment will fall on a windy day.

The UK must be pragmatic, not dogmatic, on climate change. This is what Labour’s top energy influencers (including Tony Blair) are saying. But under Ed Miliband, their advice has been ignored. While the rest of the world is changing course to energy affordability over

Delighted to host Kathryn Porter last night at the Carlton Club for the launch of her report 'The True Affordability of Net Zero'. She is an interesting voice on the sceptical side of Net Zero. It is important to listen to all voices on the spectrum to achieve a balanced score
