This Memorial Day, we honor the fallen heroes who selflessly defended our freedoms. Let's remember their sacrifices and strive to uphold the values for which they fought.

We've installed new over-height vehicle detection equipment along Route 1 at the Cooks Corner (Route 24) interchange, replacing outdated equipment. Now, state-of-the-art tech alerts drivers of over-height vehicles and alerts our dispatchers in Augusta.

Congrats to our regional snowplow champs, Roy and Matthew from Region 5! MaineDOT drivers got the chance to show off their skills at the regional Snowplow Rodeo. Later this month, they’ll compete with other Maine state organizations for a chance to compete at the national level.

Check out this photo of fresh paint being applied to a Lewiston road in 1967. History repeats: it’s striping season again! To avoid getting paint on your car, keep an eye out for our teams and do not drive over fresh paint.

“Peyton Place,” released in 1957, was filmed in Camden. Each morning, Main Street was washed down and filming began before traffic became too heavy. Which movie filmed in Maine is your favorite? (Photo courtesy of the Camden Public Library)

Motorcycles are less visible than cars. Check your blind spot twice when changing lanes, use extra caution over blind hills and intersections, and don’t tailgate a motorcycle. Be aware of your surroundings and pay attention to the task of driving safely.

Ticks are abundant in Maine, especially in the warmer months, increasing the risk of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses. Protect your pets by treating them for ticks and safeguard yourself by wearing long clothing and applying insect repellent when outdoors.

Last week, one of our crews executed a controlled knock-down of a massive interstate sign over I-395. The old sign was blocking the new roadway alignment. A new sign will be installed in the fall, roughly 1,000 feet back from where this sign was taken down.

Road construction has gotten a little faster since 1915. During the construction of Rt. 1 in Brunswick, horse and cart traffic might have been backed up from Mrs. M.D. Storer’s Cash Shoe Store all the way to the Starr Phonographs and Records!
