A pleasant talk with Mahoua Parums, Representative of UNHCR Tanzania and colleagues of FAO in Tanzania. Many thanks for briefing me your thoughts & latest situation. All my admiration to your dedication to your job.
On this #InternationalWomensDay , I applaud the leadership and dedication of my female colleagues of UNHCR East, Horn of Africa and Great Lakes ; and the resilience and courage of refugee women and girls, many of whom have overcome so many challenges.
Investing in women & girls is absolutely essential!
Finding sustainable solutions that empower refugees to live their lives in dignity and peace is a core part of our work at UNHCR Tanzania.
Today, together with the Governments of Tanzania and Burundi, and our partners, we helped 587 refugees in 🇹🇿 voluntarily return to Burundi.
On behalf of UNHCR, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to H.E. President Samia Suluhu and the people of the United Republic of Tanzania 🇹🇿 for the loss of their former President H.E. Ali Hassan Mwinyi, who was a great pan Africanist. Alazwe mahali pema peponi.
Glad meeting Prof. Ndelilio Urio, Vice Chancellor of University of Iringa & teams today to discuss ways to strengthen refugee access to tertiary education. The University has a long tradition of welcoming refugee students. Education equips refugee youths with skills to bring long-term peace
Had the pleasure today to meet again WHO Tanzania Representative Mr. Charles Sagoe-Moses together with our health partners IRC - International Rescue Committee Medical Teams International on how we can jointly support health of refugees & host communities in 🇹🇿 - A strategic and productive meeting 🙏

Engaging discussion today with UNAIDS Tanzania and UNHCR Tanzania health partners IRC - International Rescue Committee and Medical Teams International on exploring new partnerships to improve delivery of health services to refugees in Tanzania🇹🇿.

Together with Mahoua Parums, I have launched a UNHCR Tanzania project for new Congolese refugees. Through Japan’s contribution of USD 360,000, people fleeing from the Democratic Republic of Congo will be able to get shelter, water, and essential items.
