PARENTS: You can love your kids but still allow them to struggle a little bit in sports. That's part of the growing process. "Protecting" them now can limit their development as people. Educate, encourage, and equip. Be careful enabling them so much they're not prepared for life.

PLAYERS: When coaches, teachers, or parents push you or hold you to high standards, it's normally because they want you to be better. They want you to reach your potential. They want you to achieve your goals. Be coachable and appreciate the ways they might be able to help you.

COACHES: John Wooden didn't win a National Championship until his 16th year at UCLA. Don't give up. Don't get frustrated. Have a positive vision and stay committed to the process. Stay the course. Continue to be a positive leader.

In the end, the enduring legacy of a servant leader is a mark on the hearts and minds of those served – a legacy of compassion, grace, vulnerability, courage, and a steadfast commitment to the belief that, in leadership, it's always about "We."

"Leadership is lonely. If you're going to be a leader, you're not going to please everybody. You have to hold people accountable. Even if you have that moment of being uncomfortable." (Kobe Bryant)

When we prioritize physical characteristics such as athleticism, wingspan, height & body type, but don’t see the intangibles such as love of the game, competitiveness, motor, IQ & ability to adapt, we’re shortchanging athletes. The intangibles often outweigh any physical traits!

I love it when I come across parents who see that cultivating mental toughness in kids gives them a huge advantage in life. They understand that every time their child sticks it out when times get tough, they improve their odds of success in life.
