A growing number of Australians have multiple sclerosis, the most common neurological cause of disability affecting young adults. But the severity of symptoms has declined for many as treatments improve. Learn more about the disease this #WorldMSDay: unsw.edu.au/newsroom/news/…

UNSW Medicine & Health (@unswmedicine) 's Twitter Profile Photo

"There is misconception that MS is not treatable or that universally it causes a lot of disability, all of which may have been true at one point, but it’s treatable now and the levels of disability caused are far less with early treatment," says UNSW Professor Arun Krishnan.

UNSW Medicine & Health (@unswmedicine) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Prof Krishnan, a neurologist, and Assistant Prof. A/Prof Maria Markoulli, an optometrist, are conducting studies to develop a new way of monitoring inflammation in MS patients, via the eye, to help better establish whether treatment is effective and how the disease is progressing.

Check out this article featuring A/Prof Maria Markoulli and how the eye could offer insights into MS. Multiple sclerosis is on the rise in Australia, but it’s not all bad news. UNSW medical researchers are advancing the science of multiple sclerosis detection and treatment.
