Extremely proud this is now out as an official AMERSA statement, where we summarized recent policy changes affecting methadone treatment in the US and opportunities for future change, including moving towards office-based methadone treatment: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/29…

Sharing a little morsel of a paper that I am excited abt bc it might represent a new way to measure success in SUD research one day. Hair testing to measure past month substance use and eventually🤞🏽quantify use (e.g., measure REDUCED use not just abstinence)

Yup. Feeling this all day every day. Moral injury. Late stage capitalist healthcare is injuring me, colleagues +patients. Need to take the 💰out of healthcare and go back to mission of healing. ❤️bostonglobe.com/2024/05/31/opi…

My 1st JAMA paper is an invited commentary on cost-sharing causing people to abandon naloxone prescriptions, and more broadly, how the political economy of pharmaceuticals impacts the US opioid overdose epidemic & response. Thx Leo Beletsky for sharing this opportunity🙏🏾

The differences between how US vs other countries approach methadone treatment is astounding. In countries where methadone is readily available thru primary care and community pharmacies, overdoses ⬇️ Thank you Honora Englander for writing this piece!

A new study published in JAMA Network Open by Gail D'Onofrio et al suggests that 7-day extended-release buprenorphine is feasible in patients with OUD presenting with minimal to mild COWS scores (4-7), and may lower barriers to treatment. Read more:

US opioid prescribing fell below levels last seen in 1992, two years ago It turns out, it's straightforward to get doctors to stampede in one direction 📈and then the other📉 Let's change our paradigm Care for people with pain, and people with addiction, is what we have not

Woo hoo!! Great news for hospitalized patients. 🙌👏🎉 Patients hospitalized during the intervention period had significantly higher odds of MOUD initiation (7.96 times higher) and 30-day MOUD treatment engagement (6.90 times higher).
