Third right whale sighting, same guys as 2 weeks ago. In the mandatory traffic separation scheme!!! Their main food is often found in the deep channels, which is also used for shipping. At least 4 died due to ship strikes this year alone.
While MICScanada is studying the entanglement rate in rorqual whales, we shoot sometimes some nice interactions, here with Dune (F252) and her calf and a male escort (F175). Starts to be a bit late for calves, they are usually weaned by now. Baleines en direct

MICS is well represented at the World Marine Mammal Conference in Barcelona, w/ many team members and collaborators with talks and posters! // Le MICS, bien représenté à la Conférence Mondiale sur les Mammifères Marins à Barcelone! World Marine Mammal Conference #conference #science #conservation
2nd poster session at World Marine Mammal Conference this morning. @Joanna_Kershaw presenting her results with MICScanada and SMRU (now posting at Bluesky) on annual variations in calving rate linked to prey
Great talk by @SchleimerAnna about genetic structure in fin whales in the North Atlantic MICScanada Marine Evolution & Conservation Group
Hard to tell entanglement rates if we can't see. Drones are giving us a new view of fin and blue whales. Turns out they get entangled a lot. Christian Ramp at #WMMC19 MICScanada
