I was truly moved by the incredible work that the Family Support Hubs do for vulnerable families & children. The services they are referring families to are being decimated due to funding cuts. Things are getting worse, & the need will increase with the proposed welfare cuts.

Great to meet @NICCY yesterday. Some key points from me: 🙁Lack of/ slow progress on many actions affecting YP in the MH Strategy (esp. crisis & transitions). 🙁Schools' Wellbeing Framework needs more investment so more YP can benefit. 🙁Increase in ACES & child poverty.

Poverty, particularly child poverty, is a cause & a consequence of poor mental health. It affects 24% of children in NI (2022/23). It is preventable. Here's a thread on what *should* be the Anti-Poverty Strategy that our Executive are discussing today. ⬇️

A privilege to speak at this important launch! I highlighted the challenges women & children in the immigration system face, as well as the appalling racism that they experience, & the mental health impact. We need a deep commitment to trauma informed practice across society.

Siobhán O'Neill (she/her) (@profsiobhanon) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Agreed. We urgently need legislative change, plus guidance for schools, and my Office is also working to support the delivery of both aspects of this.
