Day 1 of online learning is complete. It was so wonderful to see my class. Highlight: telling me what they wanted me to know.

Today, February 1st, marks the beginning of African Heritage Month. Our SSW, Margaret Smith, was busy working on the display case to highlight and celebrate important facts about African Nova Scotians, both past and present. Thanks Margaret! #watchuslearn @TCRCE_NS #AHM2022

As a part of African Heritage month, some classes participated in a virtual interactive zoom presentation offered by the Maritime Centre for African Dance. Students had fun learning about African dances, Afrobeats and drumming. #watchuslearn

Mrs. Veinot’s Gr. 4 Social Studies class went through some of Bob Brooks’ Africville photo collection and discussed their observations. Students were prompted to practice their empathy by imagining how they’d feel if they were in a similar situation. #watchuslearn

It was great to resume, ‘buddies’ this week! Lower and upper classes schedule time to have students work together to practice literacy & numeracy skills. These are great learning opportunities for our older and younger students. #watchuslearn

Our rainbow garden was a success! We added in wood, insects, birds, books about flowers and plants. We learned about living things. #Mcsgophers #grade1isfun

February is African Heritage Month, a time to celebrate our strengths as a diverse province with a strong African Nova Scotian community and remember the past to ensure we do not repeat it. This year’s provincial theme is Seas of Struggle: African Peoples from Shore to Shore
