๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช Ireland, a country with a population smaller than Scotland and without as many natural resources, is wealthier than the UK and has a huge budget surplus.

The power of being an independent country.

The SNP will roll up our sleeves and get on with not just making the case for independence, but winning it.

Join me at the Believe in Scotland March and Rally for Independence tomorrow in Glasgow.

Here is Rishi Sunak setting back the campaign for mental health parity at least a decade.

This is un-evidenced, performative cruelty.

It's disgusting.

A man who has never known hardship canโ€™t understand why so many struggle with mental health issues.

A man with no medical training presumes to tell GPs why they shouldnโ€™t be using their expertise to assess patients.

Crass Tory cruelty.

๐Ÿ‘‡ Westminster has rejected amendments to their Rwanda Scheme that would have subjected it to international law, the Human Rights Act and Modern Slavery Act.

โŒ Tory fears over these acts shows how despicable their scheme is.

๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ SNP MPs proudly voted to enforced these acts.

Because it is assumed that they have done their homework and familiarised themselves with the facts of any particular matter that they are discussing. But over a number of issues recently we have actually seen the opposite. It's not a good development.

One of the best things about being an elected member is that it gives you the ability to say, essentially, I have questions about this and you need to answer them. That is an enormous privilege and it is what actually gives the view of an elected member some force.

Some elected members now respond to concerns raised, often on social media, without taking steps either to verify the concerns or to obtain a response before escalating. This can sometimes mean that they are commenting without knowing the facts. This is not helpful.

There are many examples of this, such as the Andrew Bowie campaign leaflet about a GP practice which he had clearly not discussed at any point with the GP practice in question. Rather, he just accepted rumour as fact. That simply shouldn't happen.

But you would always obtain a response before you did that. You would not go public before you gave the body in question an opportunity to respond to whatever concerns had been raised. That seems to be changing in some respects now.

So, generally speaking, if an issue is brought to your attention you would approach the relevant service provider or body and ask for a response to the concerns that had been raised. You might, depending on the response, decide to escalate the matter by going to the media.
