Idris Mathias was a postman in Cardigan. His work took him along the Teifi River. In 1945 he embarked on project that would take 17yrs, drawing a 58-foot-long map of the area. His map includes drawings of birds, fishermen –and their names, local landmarks and placenames. #thread

The University of Sheffield Council has decided to endorse the proposal of the University Executive Board to close our Department. This means the unequivocal end of Archaeology in the University of Sheffield. #SaveSheffieldArchaeology

Don’t forget we will be collecting cakes at the dock tomorrow morning for the scarecrow trail. All donations welcome. We will also be selling ice lollies at the cafe over the weekend. So let’s hope for some ☀️☀️

High over the river, the crows are circling, calling and weaving, back & forth, they cannot settle. Something has shifted deep in the land, deep below the snow and the flood and the rocks, and they need to measure it for themselves.

So many of our churches occupy the edges. The liminal spaces. Clinging to crumbling coastlines, sinking into saltmarshes, up a mountain hanging, literally, between heaven and earth. Their landscape is ancient and brand new all at once. It’s everchanging and constant. #thread

Fascinating to hear Kimberly Glassman 's research to unravel Hooker's Flora Boreali-Americana and to follow the threads which lead to the undervalued contributions of women botanists #NatSCA2023
